This big beautiful diverse world has so much to offer, providing us with all we need to thrive, survive and enjoy the process. Food is not only necessary to sustain us, but is one of the most enjoyable elements of being a human

“If you leave here hungry it’s your own damn fault”

___Joseph David

Josph was my beloved grandfather, and he didn’t believe in saying I love you, but showing it, that was his way. He lived on the outskirts of town in little bungalow he designed and built his self, cash on hand only, as he didn’t believe in living outside your means, on a little over an acre plot of land. Grandpa and Grandma were products of the not-so-great DEPRESSION, and they planted and raised most of their food on that plot. Just a few of their labors of Love were pomegranates, apricots, plums, cherries, tomatoes, corn, okra, and beans of all kinds, garlic, potatoes, peppers, nuts and even kohlrabi along with a plethora of herbs and spices.

Their victory garden was one of my play places and I would spend time trapsing through the garden of veg and flora as grandmas’ green thumb didn’t stop with just edible plants. She would yell at me, ” keep in the trenches don’t step on my just planted seeds!” Staying at their house was my safe haven, and refuge. The cousins and my brother Derrick and I felt safe, loved, and as always well fed. Thanks Grandpa Joe and Grandma Dolores for our childhood on God’s Little Acre

I grew up watching Julia Childs, Yan Can Cook, The Cajun Chef and Rebecca aka Mommy and Grandma Dolores cook away. I discovered Japanese, Indian, Chinese, Greek, Middle Eastern cuisine after I was grown. I tell you there’s a lot to be said for an open mind in all aspects of life, without one we sure would miss out on the beauty, bounty and enjoyment of life.
